Holiday travel can be hectic, which is why we’ve put together a list of Allegiant’s top ten travel tips. Follow these suggestions to save yourself from unnecessary stress.
1. Arrive Early
Get to the airport at least two hours before your scheduled departure time. We recommend that you plan to arrive at the gate no less than one hour [SG1] before takeoff. This will help keep your schedule flexible in case you run into an unforeseen delay.
And if you have free time after security, you can always grab a festive drink or some holiday treats.
2. Consider Smaller Airports
When booking your holiday travel, don’t forget to check flights at alternative airports. You might be able to find better prices at less-trafficked ones outside the bigger cities. Even though it may require a drive, avoiding the larger crowds can help you bypass common delays seen around peak travel season.
Allegiant flies nonstop from many smaller airports throughout the U.S. You’ll love the convenience of shorter lines!
3. Change the Holiday Routine
Tired of gathering at Grandma’s house? Shake it up this year and take the whole family somewhere new for the holidays.
Choose a classic destination like New York City, or San Francisco. Want to escape the cold? Head nonstop to Orlando or Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

4. Pack Smart
Be mindful of what you’re packing, even if you’re traveling with the entire family.
Consider packing one or two checked bags instead of multiple carry-ons. Traveling somewhere cold? Wear your coat and boots on the plane to save space in your bag.
5. Don’t Wrap Your Gifts
Brown paper packages all tied up with string won’t be your favorite after you get held up at the security checkpoint. TSA discourages traveling with gifts that are wrapped.
Save yourself the trouble and wrap them when you get there.
6. Know Before You Go
To save time getting through airport security, make sure you’re aware of what items you can and cannot bring in your luggage.
We recommend checking TSA’s ‘What Can I Bring’ list on their website.

7. Fly Nonstop
Flying nonstop is your best bet for avoiding layover delays. The convenience and efficiency of nonstop flights make them the preferred choice for those seeking a smoother, stress-free holiday travel experience.
This significantly reduces the risk of delays and cancellations, ensuring that cherished moments with family and friends are not compromised.
8. Make Reservations Early
Hotel rooms and rental car bookings fill up fast around the holidays! Make sure you have all your reservations squared away weeks before you’re scheduled to travel.
Those aren’t the only reservations to be mindful of. If you want to have a nice family dinner, make sure to call the restaurant well in advance, or buy tickets to a show ahead of schedule. The more you plan ahead, the better!
9. Use the Apps
There are numerous apps created to help you get through this stressful travel time. Need something to do on a your flight? Use Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, etc.
Many cities have created apps to help navigate in an unfamiliar place, especially if you plan on using public transportation. Research what resources are available in your destination!
Stressed out? Consider downloading Headspace or Calm to exercise mindfulness or meditate during your journey.
10. Entertain the Little Ones
Keep your little elves happy by bringing plenty of books, snacks, or handheld electronics for the flight. And don’t forget the headphones for everyone!
We recommend downloading the shows or movies first to watch them during the flight.
